BTCC Season 2025 – Donington Park GP – Free Practice 2
Welcome back to Donington Park for the second Free Practice session of this the 8th meeting of the 2025 season. The glorious sunshine of this morning has gone and we now have grey clouds starting to build in from the west. It is dry for now, so let’s hope that it can stay that way until after Qualifying.
A feature of this session was just how close Aiden and Charles were on this longer set up at Donnington Park. Charles was able to get another 13 laps under his belt, whilst Aiden managed 12. The difference came down to a red flag midway through the session because of debris on the circuit at the Foggarty Esses.
This was down to a number of cars taking liberties with the left hander at the Esses, which threw gravel onto the circuit, with Josh Cook and Ash Sutton getting track limits warnings. As, these red flags are a driver and engineer’s worst nightmare as everything in the car cools down and the driver has to reset to a new set of plans after the stoppage.
Both cars went on to fast runs after the red flag with excellent results. Charles ended the session in 4th place with a 1:33.493, and Aiden just over half a second behind. Both cars looked good and Aiden and Charles have some idea of what they want from the car for Qualifying.
Each car will be in a different part of Qualifying at 3.25 and it will be interesting to see what tyre the team will send them out on. With the threat of rain and variable track temperatures, we will obviously make the tyre choice just before the cars go out to decide what their starting positions for Race 1 tomorrow.
