BTCC Season 2025 – Knockhill – preview
Aiden returns home this weekend as we head north of the border to Knockhill, the most northerly destination in the Kwik Fit BTCC calendar. Nestled in the hills, Knockhill presents an enormous number of challenges to the teams and drivers with it’s own microclimate, terrifying drop and then a left/right combination, a difficult 2 wheel crest and an unbelievably tight hairpin before the long steep drag back up to the line. When we say microclimate, anyone who has been here knows that you can shiver in Race 1, get sunburnt in Race 2, and canoe round the track in Race 3!
Knockhill Racing Circuit opened in September 1974 and is Scotland’s national motorsport centre. The circuit is located in the countryside about 6-mile (9.7 km) north of Dunfermline. It is the only FIA approved circuit in Scotland. The circuit opened in September 1974 by joining service roads to a nearby disused mineral railway. The first car race was held on 18 May 1975 and it has been a huge success ever since with National Championship’s like BTCC and BSB making it one of their favourite rounds!
Whilst this represents a genuine return home for Aiden, Charles will be taking on the circuit for the first time ever in a BTCC car, but he was a race winner here last year in the Porsche’s. Aiden, of course, will remember this Knockhill weekend way back in 2013 when he first stepped into a BTCC car on the Friday lunchtime and he hasn’t looked back since!
The BMW itself has seen good success at Knockhill in recent seasons, but the car still seems to be down on speed this season, following the change from the hybrid systems. Together with the technical changes that have taken place regarding rear wheel drive cars over previous seasons, this is something that the team have been working on.
So, north we go with a weather forecast that has only the remotest possibility of a shower during Qualifying on Saturday and no chance at all of rain on Sunday!
