BTCC Thruxton – Free Practice 1

BTCC Season 2025 – Thruxton – free practice one

Good morning everybody and welcome to Thruxton circuit in Hampshire. Thruxton is the
quickest circuit in the championship, and all eyes are on the weather!

As the cars rolled out for Free Practice 1, the track was dry, but with low grey clouds, it
seemed inevitable that we would get rain at some point. There were multiple weather
forecasts circulating with all of them saying yes there will be rain, but no two of them
agreeing exactly when that might be.

Only 3 minutes into the 35 minute session and we had the first few drops, but crucially, not
enough to consider the wet tyres. Both Aiden and Charles were doing short 2 lap stints and
then coming in for little tweaks as we sought to get the right balance. This is, of course, an
unusual race weekend as there is only 1 dry tyre. This is because of the speed and loading
on the tyres here that demands that we use the hardest compound available from Dunlop.

Both Charles and Aiden soon found setups that they felt comfortable with at this early stage and towards the end of the session they were able to get some longer runs in before things changed. Charles came in first with a massive puncture (see the picture!) and Aiden came in at the end of the session, just before the heavy rain arrived.

We know that this is only Free Practice 1, but the boys and the team were heartened with
their pace with Aiden 2 nd fastest on the session and Charles in 5 th .

We will bring you the Free Practice 2 action from Thruxton, starting 12.00 and we will see
what we can do, and also what the weather does! We’ll see you then.
