BTCC Season 2025 – thruxton – qualifying

Ok, so let’s get it out of the way. The monsoon had arrived as promised, but it started 15 minutes before Qualifying and continued to such an extent that the start of the Formula 4 race after the Touring Car qualifying had to be delayed and hadn’t started when we left the track!
Always a tough ask in these conditions, Part 1 (Group 1) of Qualifying saw Charles going out for the 10 dash (or should that be splash?) around the circuit. Given the volume of water, it was hard to judge what a good time would be. As it happens, Charles’ time of 1:23.164 was good enough for 4th place and a place in the top 12 shoot-out.
Part 1 (Group 2) saw Aiden on track, but it was to be a horribly disjointed session as half way through, and with Aiden looking to set a fast lap, the action was halted as Josh Cook had a high speed impact that took his Honda through the barriers, causing a red flag. Going back out with only enough time for one proper flying lap, the 10 minute break had allowed more water to settle on the track and Aiden was unable to progress further, finishing 10th in the session and starting tomorrow’s race 1 in 20th.
Part 2 saw Charles going faster with a 1:22.995, but that wasn’t quite enough for the top 6 shoot out, and Charles will start Race 1 from P11. With the 10 of the top 12 all being front wheel drive, it would suggest that they were better in the wet.
So it is that we will start Race 1 tomorrow with Charles P11 and Aiden P20. The BTCC action starts at 11.45 and if you can’t be with us at the circuit, you can catch all of the action on ITV 4.
